Changes for 2008

There are changes to the Red River program this year. The first, and most important, has to do with participation. For 2008, you must register if you want to participate in the buckle series. There are 3 ways to register:

• sign up at the East Texas Gaited Classic (Nacogdoches)
• sign up online
• download form and snail mail
• sign up at the Gaited Gala (Athens)

The second change has to do with how points are earned for the Versatility awards. Participants will no longer be able to earn points for showing multiple horses in the following events:

• Pole Bending
• Barrel Racing
• Jumping
• Basic Reining
• Western Riding

Participants will be able to show multiple horses, but each participant must designate which entry will earn Red River versatility points. This must be done before the start of the show. There will be a form in the office for you to fill out and declare the horse you will ride in each class before the start of the show.

Also, remember that in classes where adult and youth are combined, each horse may have exactly 1 adult rider and 1 youth rider.

The third change has to do with the point system. For a regional show, an extra 2 points will be awarded for each placing. A double-judged show counts as 2 shows, so points will be earned for each judge. The points that can be earned at each participating show are

• East Texas Gaited Classic: +2 points for each placing
• Gaited Gala: "double" points (one set of regular points for each judge)
• Moonwalker Memorial Show: regular points
