ABOUT RED RIVER YEAR END HIGH POINT SERIES

The Red River High Point Awards are privately sponsored awards designed to promote participation in National Walking Horse Association affiliated shows in North and East Texas. There are 4 award categories:
  • Youth High Point
  • Youth Versatility
  • Adult High Point
  • Adult Versatility

Year-End Awards

The year-end High Point Champion in each category will receive an award. The image displayed above is the actual 2008 High Point Award from Cowboy BronzeTM. http://cowboybronze.com/

Tie-breakers

In case of a tie at year-end, the rankings from individual shows will be used as a tie-breaker. The participant with the better show ranking will win the tie. For example, if Bonnie was the high point winner at two shows while Samantha was the high point winner at one show only, Bonnie would win the tie-breaker.

Eligibility

  • Participants must be NWHA Adult or Youth members.
  • An individual may earn points as a Youth rider or an Adult rider, but not both, during a single calendar year. Points earned competing in a youth class will not count towards the adult high point awards. (see note)

  • Participant may compete on any horse in any eligible class.
  • Participant must pre-register.
  • Participant does not have to be a resident of Texas.

Scoring
Updated 31 December 2007

Points are awarded to the rider only, not the horse and rider combination. This means that an individual may earn points on multiple horses at a single show.

Scoring is slightly different from the way that NWHA and TWHBEA calculate high point scores. Since the Red River awards are meant to promote participation, anyone placing in an eligible class will receive at least 0.5 points. The maximum points that may be earned are 6 for 1st place, 5 for 2nd place, down to 1 point for 6th place. The following table shows how points are awarded.

Number of Entries Points Awarded
1st Place 2nd Place 3rd Place 4th Place 5th Place 6th Place
1 0.5 N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A
2 1 0.5 N/A N/A N/A N/A
3 1.5 1 0.5 N/A N/A N/A
4 2 1.5 1 0.5 N/A N/A
5 2.5 2 1.5 1 0.5 N/A
6 3 2.5 2 1.5 1 0.5
7 3.5 3 2.5 2 1.5 1
8 4 3.5 3 2.5 2 1
9 4.5 4 3.5 3 2 1
10 5 4.5 4 3 2 1
11 5.5 5 4 3 2 1
12+ 6 5 4 3 2 1

Regional shows earn double points.

Multiple-judge shows earn points for each judge's placings.

• East Texas Gaited Classic: an extra 2 points will be awarded for each placing.
• Gaited Gala: "double" points (one set of regular points for each judge)
• Moonwalker Memorial Show: regular points

Notes

  • In the normal scheme of things, a person is considered a youth for the entire show season if they were under 18 at the start of the show season. NWHA defines a show season using the NWHA National Show as the end of the year. Since the Red River Awards use points earned during a calendar year, it is possible for an individual to compete as a youth from 1 January up to and including the National Show, and then compete as an adult from the National Show to 31 December. For the Red River Awards only, an individual who turns 18 during the calendar year in which points are earned may decide to accrue points as an adult or a youth.
    • If you start the year as a youth, all points earned will count towards the youth awards unless you inform the sponsors otherwise.
    • Send an email to Paula Sue if you wish to change your status from youth to adult.
    • You can only change your status once; reversal is not allowed.
    • You can only change your status from youth to adult; changing your status from adult to youth is not allowed.
    • Points earned in any youth classes will not count towards the adult awards.
    • You cannot change your status after the start of the final show in the series.
